Once Upon a Time, “Our Decay”, Review!

Flashback, Emerald City, in the Land of Oz, “many years ago”, Zelena places a birthday cake and shows a magic mirror that reveals a woman giving away a baby. A Flying Monkey brings in the Scarecrow (rendered in CG). The Wicked Witch wants him for a time travel spell. Into the door bursts Dorothy (Teri Reeves), older and a warrior wearing the Silver Slippers (Ruby is the MGM version). Toto pokes his head out of Dorothy’s bag, he rips down the curtain on the witch, and the Wicked Witch tosses a spell that vaporizes the head of a guard. Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Toto run away. Back to the Underworld, present day, Hades looks at the picture of himself and the Witch, the clock ticks on the fallen clock. Rumple is working on opening a portal at a loom. Hades wants to go to Storybrooke. Belle checks on babies and she is checked in by Mother Superior (Keegan Connor Tracy), the true Mother Superior walks in, to see Zelena shifting back looking for her baby. Rumple asks about Hades’ reason for the portal. Hades takes out the Dagger of the Dark One. Zelena has the baby, Mother Superior has her wand on Zelena. Rumple uses the dagger to open the portal. Storybrooke, the ground rumbles, and Belle falls into the portal. It closes and Hades asks, “Ok, where’s the baby?”
The baby cries in the arms of Belle, snowy ground, and Zelena finds her magic is gone. She realizes that they are in the Underworld. Belle runs away as Zelena cries. The Wicked Witch walks around the Munchkins, she vaporizes a Munchkin, when Hades walks in with suit, he sets his hair on fire. The Munchkins scatter. The Wicked Witch sweeps with her broom. He talks about Dorothy and says to the witch, “No one loves you.” She goes green cloudy. Mary Margaret and David are served at the diner by the Blind Witch (Emma Caufield). Mary Margaret realizes that they are “regulars.” The Blind Witch tells them about a booth to conduct a haunting. She has David to breathe into a tube. Hook is contemptuous of the scene written by Henry. A knock at the door and it’s Zelena. She explains that her baby is also there, leaving out the Belle part. The Wicked Witch enters her chambers to see Hades. He holds up the cake with a candle. Hades tells her about his older brother, Zeus. He wants the Kiss of True Love and says he can find the Scarecrow. Robin gets his arrows to go after his daughter with Regina. Belle is wandering the Underworld streets. She comes to a shop and hides behind shelves when Rumple appears from an elevator. Belle explains what happened and Rumple knows that his spell didn’t work. He tells her Hades’ deal for Balefire. She knows she’s carrying his second child and that the child is sold to Hades. Belle knows he’s the Dark One and he takes out the dagger. She can’t face him as the Dark One. Rumple says to her, “You’ll see I’m right, you’ll see.” The baby is incredibly quiet.
Underworld, Mary Margaret and David are in the line for the haunting, waiting to contact Neal, they ask someone behind them in line, but he doesn’t know how it works. In the Underworld forest, Robin is tracking, Regina walks, and Zelena yaps on and on. Regina tells her sister she was just like her as the Evil Queen, but says her enemies became her family. Oz, Hades leads the Wicked Witch to the crashed house where Dorothy arrived and Hades takes out a bicycle. The Wicked Witch boards the bike and they begin to ride. The witch laughs, almost human, and they crash. He explains that the bike belongs to Dorothy. Belle has the baby and Robin and he gets to the baby with Regina and then Zelena. The baby starts crying and Zelena has the baby’s bottle. Zelena feeds her baby, her magic crackles in her fingertip, she hits them with a spell. At the house, Mary Margaret and David explains that they can contact the real world to Emma. Zelena tries to run with the baby who is crying, she has a wound on her cheek, but has no magic. In the fog of Oz, the Wicked Witch and Hades reach the hut of Dorothy. The Scarecrow leaves the hut. Dorothy takes out a sword and the Wicked Witch rips out the Scarecrow’s brain. The witch wants Dorothy’s friends to know she failed. The bike is left alone. Zelena looks out the window to see Robin, Regina, and Belle. Zelena walks out and explains that Hades wants to use the baby for a time travel spell. Zelena cries wanting the others to protect the baby. She gives the baby to Robin.
They look at the baby in the house. Henry walks down with a new page. He shows them pages about Neal and his parents Snow White and Prince Charming, he heard the haunting. Mary Margaret tells them, “We’re going to take down Hades, we’re going to do it now.” Hades waits. The Wicked Witch sees Hades and he says it’s True Love or To Blave (which of course means to bluff). The witch walks away from him and rejects Hades. He disappears in blue flame. The misty Underworld streets, Zelena faces Hades, he still says it’s True Love. He explains that the Underworld looks like Storybrooke which he did for Zelena. Hades says to Zelena, “Things don’t grow here, they decay, but it’s our decay.” He says they should work together to get back the baby. Hades says Zelena’s birthday is April 15th. He goes blue flame. I like warrior Dorothy, but really think the Zelena, Rumple and Belle episodes are the weakest. Three Daggers of the Dark One out of Five!
