Black Widow #1 found Natasha Romanov exiled from S.H.I.E.L.D.! What will she do, now that she’s on her own? In the latest installment of Black Widow, we find Natasha watching over Director Hill at a funeral of an agent. Some assassins show up, seeming like they’re gunning for Hill, but end up kidnapping Natasha instead. Obviously this is too easy as she quickly takes out her captures, opening with the same head butt move that she used in the Avengers while tied to a chair. Natasha finds out that the assassins were working for a man called the ‘Weeping Lion’. He has some sort of black-mail on Black Widow, we don’t know what, but it’s obviously upsetting. He uses it to make her do something for him. What exactly? We’ll have to wait until next month to find out.

What did I like about this issue? I’m still in love with the art by Chris Samnee, the rainy funeral scene looked especially good. I like the build up in mystery, we are learning some new information, but are still in the dark for the most part. Handled correctly, the slow but sure reveal will be a great read. What didn’t I like is that so far we are getting very little story in every issue. I feel like I picked up half a comic book. I hope to see more plot development in the next issue. A solid issue though. Four out of five. Don’t forget to pick up Black Widow #3 May 4th.
