Legends of Tomorrow, “Pilot, Part 2”, Review!

Norway, 1975, the Waverider finds a meadow to land. Heatwave has a headache from the flight. Hunter has Boardman’s notebook. Gideon has detected a meeting of terrorists. The others walk out distrusting Hunter. Captain Cold, Snart, takes some i.d. from a terrorist. Professor Stein says they are with the Scimitar group. Heatwave, Rory, and Snart walk into the warehouse gathering of Vandal Savage. He brings up a nuclear warhead as a seller. There is also Damien Dahrk (Neal McDonough, guest starring from Arrow). Savage senses the presence of the Hawkcouple. Stein has Snart fire his gun and wins the auction. Dahrk goes to talk with Stein. Rory is angry at Dahrk. Stein let’s slip to Savage, “this era.” The Hawkcouple fly in and the group goes into action. The Atom, Ray Palmer, flies in at small size and then goes large fighting. Savage is looking at the team taking down all of the men with their powers and weapons. Hawkman drops in and deflects a knife with his mace. Savage sets off the warhead. Jax runs up and turns into Firestorm. Atom flies into the warhead and can’t deactivate it. Firestorm flies the warhead away to an island and takes in the nuclear blast. He takes in the blast and puts a crater in the island. The group returns to the Waverider and Hunter gives them a sarcastic clap. Rory mutters, “You’re welcome Norway”, he’s a fun character. Ray has left behind some circuitry taken by Savage.

Hawkman, Carter, looks at his dead son’s jacket. His body is placed in cryo storage. He shows Kendra, Hawkgirl, a newspaper clipping of a dagger that he used to kill them in Egypt. Atom says that the suit uses alpha particles and Stein may know how find them. Kendra shows the others the newspaper clipping, the way to kill Savage. Snart volunteers to steal the dagger. Stein wants to break into his lab to find the alpha particles with Jax. The Waverider heads over to Ivy Town, 1975. White Canary, Sara Lance, has the white boots and coat, groovy. Stein sees himself as a young man (Graeme McComb) who walks up to them. Stein says he’s Professor Elon Musk, hilarious! Young Stein says, “I’m the expert on alpha particles.” Sara flirts with young Stein who wants to smoke a doobie. Jax finds it funny. Kendra has Gideon try to decode the writing on the dagger. Carter has her close her eyes and think back to their lives in Egypt. He goes in for a kiss and is denied. Savage walks with his associate to the lab. He picks up the circuit and kills the scientist who says it will take weeks to reverse engineer.

Snart has checked the security system, Ray enters the code for the system, Rory says it’s a dummy box and the criminals have to take down the security guards. At a club, Stein refuses the doobie that young Stein was handing to Jax. Young Stein goes for munchies as Stein tells Sara to stop flirting with his young self. Rory bashes the glass cases to hide the robbery. Ray holds Snart’s arm and is socked. They get into a fight, but a cage falls down. Stein finds the alpha particle detector, but it is yanked away by his younger self. He is suspicious about Stein’s companions. Stein says that young Stein is being considered as a Wells candidate. Sara hits the young Stein with a bong. Stein sets an alarm clock because his young self is fated to meet his future wife. Rory is angry that Ray trapped them and goes to deactivate the alarm. Snart opens a box and begins rewiring the security system. He has contempt for Ray flying around in a suit. Carter looks at a schematic of the dagger. Kendra confesses she’s worried about their destiny together. Kendra closes her eyes again. She sees Khufu, the first life of Hawkman, give her a dagger. She says it’s a love poem, “I count my days until my rebirth” and kisses him.

Stein, Jax, and White Canary are at the top of the lab, she drops down and takes down the men with her staves. She takes the circuit and walks out. Rory is brought in by Savage who holds a gun to his head. Sara walks in to the Waverider and Stein sees his wedding ring has disappeared when his younger self walks in! (seems like an unnecessary complication). Savage says that he knows the group knows he’s immortal and that they are from the future. He hits Rory over the head with his gun. He picks up the communicator knocked out and says Ray should contact the others. Stein is angry at the arrogance of his youthful form. He is disappointed in himself which he tells Jax. His friend reassures him that he is a good person. Stein gives the alpha particle detector to his young adult person. Hunter gets the message from Snart that it’s Savage. The Hawkcouple walk up. Firestorm blasts away Savage. They walk out and Snart hands Hawkman the dagger. The Hawkcouple fly after Savage. Hawkman tackles Savage as the others raze his guards. Carter stabs Savage, but he turns it around and stabs Hawkman (Not too worried about the fate of Hawkman with all of time open to them). He knocks down Hawkgirl. His spirit leaves his body and floats into Savage!  The battle continues outside. Hawkgirl goes after Savage and he is able to get hold of her and stabs her with the dagger. He is blasted across the room by Hunter. They take Hawkgirl with them to the Waverider. Kendra wakes crying about the death of Carter before the sedative kicks in. Ray apologizes to Stein about his wife. Hunter walks up to them. Hunter takes Stein to the faculty mixer where he sees his future wife with his younger self. Stein thanks Hunter. Snart wants revenge for the death of Carter. They all want in. The Waverider takes off into the night sky. Four Time Spheres out of Five!
