Movies You Gotta Catch-Scrooged

Name: Scrooged
Directed by: Richard Donner
Year: 1988
Genre: Comedy/Horror
Starring: Bill Murray, Karen Allen, John Forsythe, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane.

PLOT:
The classic Charles Dickens tale has been re-imagined into a Christmas Eve Live Production that would make Dickens himself turn in his grave. The tyrant behind this LIVE Christmas-Eve spectacular  is Frank Cross, played by the always hilarious Bill Murray. Frank is a cold heartless studio executive that will do anything for ratings. He hates Christmas so much he gets joy in ruining it for others by pulling thousands of people away from their families in order to see his vision come to life.
Frank isn’t going to be able to keep heading down his path of “Happy Bah-Humbug” without consequence. His former boss and mentor, Lew Hayward, comes back from the grave to warn Frank to repent his Scrooge-like ways or pay an for it in eternity. Everyone loves Christmas, and just like in the Charles Dickens Tale, Frank’s going to be visited by three ghosts. The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Will these spirits of the Holiday be able to help Frank re-discover the meaning of Christmas or is he Scrooged?
WHAT’S SO GOOD ABOUT IT:
Bill Murray gives a straight man comedic performance for the ages. His dry, sarcastic, wise-cracking dialogue transforms perfectly into a success driven studio executive. You love him for being such a colossal D-Bag.
Bobcat Goldthwait gives one of his most memorable on-screen performances as a “normal” person. He plays a soft spoken well meaning executive who is driven to the edge when he’s fired the day before Christmas.
“Scrooged” is perfect for the holidays. It’s not a cheesy, lovey-dovey, holiday re-make, it’s a proper re-imagning that still drives home the point of what the Holiday truly means. Scrooged is a great modern day retelling that still holds up today despite being made in the late 1980’s.
Quotable Lines:
-Frank Cross: The bitch hit me with a toaster!

-Frank Cross: Towel, Towel, VCR, Towel…most of these are Towels. (when sorting through his Christmas gift list)

-Elliot: That thing looked like The Manson Family Christmas Special!

-Frank: You’ve got a promo featuring America’s favorite old fart reading a book in front of a fireplace! Now I have to kill all of you!

-Lew: I was a captain of industry. Feared by men, adored by women.
Frank: Adored…Let’s be Honest Lou, you paid for the women.
