Supergirl, “Blood Bonds”, Review!

We left the Supergirl finale, “Hostile Takeover”, with Cat figuring out the identity of Supergirl and her aunt Astra captured with her husband Non(!) on the attack! Now we continue with “Blood Bonds.” Supergirl and Non fly through the roof of Lord Technologies and fight in the night sky. They have to dodge a 747 and Non slams Supergirl down. Hank tries to confront Non who gets him in a lock, Non fires hat vision at the DEO agents, and flies them away. Maxwell Lord is upset at the DEO officers at Lord Technologies and sends them away. Alex takes over from Hank as director with Henshaw gone. Supergirl talks with Astra in her cell. Astra threatens to tell the truth about her mother. She tells her that she ordered Non to spare her niece. Supergirl walks away. Astra tells her the Kryptonian saying, “Blood binds us all.” Flashback to Krypton, Astra in binders talks with her sister, Lara. Non and Astra are given the sentence of lifetime imprisonment in Fort Roz. Non yells at her, “Do you hear me Lara, you have killed your daughter!” before he is transported to the Phantom Zone. Catco, Jimmy wants to investigate Lord with Win in a meeting with Kara. She reveals that Cat know she’s Supergirl. Kara accidentally blasts a cup with her heat vision. Jimmy rushes to get her glasses. Cat arrives and Kara laughs her accusation off. Cat says she’s serious about stories.
Supergirl lunch to Alex at the DEO. Non contacts them and they see Hank bound in a chair. Non says they have 48 hours until Hank is killed. Alex and her sister discuss options and run into General Lane. He is made director of the DEO by the president. Jimmy is taking pics at Lord Technologies. Lord stops him. Jimmy asks him what he is going to do. Lord replies, “What needs to be done.” Cat has Kara sit and goes over her research. She brings up Midvale, the town where the Danvers live, introduced in Adventure Comics #233 (1957). Cat is convinced she is Supergirl from her answers. An alien tries to read Hank’s mind. General Lane talks with Astra. He brings up the alien invasion film The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) and his fear from it. Lane has a case with Kryptonite syringes. Supergirl enters and is weakened by the Kryptonite. Astra is injected with the syringe and screams. Kara talks with Jimmy and Win at Catco. Cat calls her in. Win talks with Jimmy who suspects something is up with Lord. His photos were to help him break in. Cat threatens Kara’s job so she can concentrate on saving people. Win hacks into Lord Technologies and he deactivates a laser grid. Jimmy has found a bio scan and is knocked out by a guard with Lord standing next to him.
The DEO heads for Kryptonian base. They report that Supergirl is there. Alex is armed and Supergirl heat blasts the door. They find that Hank is a hologram. A bomb explodes and Supergirl protects Alex and a soldier with her cape. Alex says that it was a trap by Astra. Jimmy wakes up and is questioned by Maxwell Lord. He socks Jimmy and threatens him with a wrench. At Catco, Kara talks with Cat saying how the place is important to her. Kara quits. She goes to see the bruised Jimmy. Kara knows it’s Maxwell Lord and gets angry at Win and Jimmy. Win tries to block Kara, she has turned desperate. Kara admits she feels powerless. Jimmy and Win console her. At the cell, Supergirl talks with Astra. She wants to know what happened on Krypton. Flashback, Lara knows that Krypton will be destroyed, but Astra has killed people. She is sent to the Phantom Zone. Astra tells Supergirl, “Your mother never stopped believing in me.” Alex tells her sister that there might be a trade for Hank. Astra is brought before General Lane. The soldiers side with Supergirl. She lands at the prisoner exchange and Astra is traded for Hank. Kryptonians fly in.
Astra has them stand down. Non orders them to withdraw and flies away. Astra says this was not a truce and Supergirl says it’s a start. Hank is back and sends off General Lane. The secret of his identity is out since Supergirl has super hearing. At Catco, Supergirl lands at her balcony. Kara enters and shakes hands with Supergirl. Cat offers her job back Supergirl is flying, transforms into Martian Manhunter, and then Hank Henshaw. Kara says the DEO keeps him human, her friends do that. Superman types that he learned the “Blood binds us all” from her. Win and Jimmy talk with Kara about dealing with Maxwell Lord. In a lab, Lord walks with scientists, he sees a hologram of arm. Maxwell introduces himself to a woman patient who wakens with all black eyes. Four Kryptonite bars out of five!
