Supergirl, “Solitude”, Review!

We get a look at the Phantom Zone, 13 years ago, when Kara is in the capsule and it reaches Fort Rozz. Kara wakes up from the dream and sees Alex who expects her to return to the DEO. Kara can’t forgive Hank for killing her aunt. Catco, Siobhan enters and Winn tries to greet her. Cat enters calling in “Tweedle Dee”, Siobhan, to her office. She wants an update from all of her reporters. Jimmy opens the mailing from Siobhan and finds a zip drive from a hacker under Diamond Expressions.com. Cat wants “Brown Hair”, Siobhan, to check it out. She dismisses everyone. Alex spars with Hank at the DEO. He transforms into Martian Manhunter to hold her to the wall. Hank knows that she is angry over her sister leaving. Sunset, Jimmy has brought pot stickers to Kara. She doesn’t want to reveal her identity to Lucy. The televisions turn to the hacker whom Cat calls the “Peroxide Avenger.” Love Cat’s quips. She is played by Laura Vandervoort who was Kara Zor-El in Smallville for seasons 7, 8, and 10 in 2011. Cat wants Winn to fix the hacks. Accidents occur all over National City with the woman controlling the signals. Supergirl flies in the night, while Jimmy talks to her over his signal watch, she takes a family’s car away from a truck.

Catco gets the news of the hack and Cat calls in her group. She wants everyone to find the hacker. Kara takes up Cat’s task to contact her investment banker when Siobhan can’t answer. Lucy talks with Jimmy when Kara interrupts them. Winn is working through the night working on code. The woman cuts into Winn’s laptop. She forms out of computer chips into Indigo, a blue skinned woman with three red glowing circles on her forehead. Indigo first appeared in Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day #1 (2003). She is known as Brainiac 8. Indigo hits Kara and holds Winn while Supergirl reveals herself. Hank and Alex bursts into the apartment and Indigo leaves. A man is about to propose to a woman when Indigo appears. She is found by Non and says she was with the Coluan cyber construct, the Brainiac origin is intact. Her plan will wipe out humanity and leave only the Kryptonians! Catco, Siobhan is working on the copier when Winn helps her. She reveals to him about the affair of her father. Alex walks up to Winn and Kara. She wants to get Winn’s help. Winn leaves with Alex. Jimmy sees them go and he has a place they can go, the Fortress of Solitude! The Fortress of Solitude first appeared in comics, called the Secret Citadel, in Superman #17 (1942).

Supergirl flies Jimmy with winter clothing to the Fortress. He goes to uncover the key, made from a condensed dwarf star and opens the Fortress. They enter and Kara sees the pod that carried her cousin. She sees a Legion of Super Heroes ring. The Legion first appeared in Adventure Comics #247 (1958) and they appeared in the Smallville “Legion” (2009) episode. The Kryptonian Kelex robot arrives to answer questions about the hacker whom he identifies as Indigo, a prisoner of Fort Rozz, and part of the Brainiac program. Catco, Jimmy talks with Lucy about the cyber threat and realizes that he blew off his date with her to go with Supergirl. Kara meets with Lucy, bringing her Cat’s rejected green tea latte, and praises Jimmy. She tells her about Jimmy’s father giving him a camera, but Lucy never heard that story. Later, Kara tells Jimmy that she misses Winn and Alex. Lucy gives them a folder on General Mathers. DEO, Hank says that Winn has found the alien, Brainiac code. Lucy explains that Indigo is uncovering information on General Mathers to launch nuclear missiles from Fort Pemberton. General Mathers (Patrick O’Connell) answers his phone and Indigo appears and takes down the soldiers. She has the keys and extends her arms to activate the nuclear missiles.

Supergirl appears and fights with Indigo, but the launch sequence is started. A panel opens revealing the engines starting for a missile! Supergirl continues the fight and flies off to stop the missile, it’s totally Superman: The Movie. The DEO detects Supergirl flying towards the missile and she tries to push it away. Supergirl contacts Hank and flies up tot he missile climbing up its side. Winn has a computer virus to shut down Indigo. Hank instructs Supergirl on how to deactivate the missles’ flight computer. The missile hurtles toward National City. She inputs the code and it splashes into the water outside of the city. Indigio readies another missile and is hit by Supergirl. Winn prepares the virus. Indigio goes into the phone to grab hold of Winn’s throat. Winn tells her, “You’re just a glorified Windows Vista!” Indigo collapses and tells Supergirl that she found her pod and sent it to Earth. She shatters into red crystals. Alex contacts her sister. Winn runs in to talk to Siobhan. He tells her about his father, Toy Man, she kisses him and takes him to the elevator. News reports tell about the cover story of a rocket resupplying the International Space Station. Cat leaves to see her son. Kara tells Jimmy is still hyped from the rescue. Lucy is breaking up with Jimmy about the camera story, he loves Kara. Night, Alex is sparring with Hank when Supergirl walks in. She admits that she needs the team. Alex admits that she killed Astra. Supergirl hugs her and holds Hank’s hand. Non is holding a sphere and reassembles the parts of Indigo! Four Kryptonite bars out of five!
