Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D., “The Ghost” Review!

Agents’ appears to be taking full advantage of its new time slot with darker themes being apparent in this season premiere. Daisy Johnson is out on her own as Quake, playing the vigilante when she accidentally encounters Ghost Rider aka Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna). Meanwhile back at S.H.I.E.L.D., the organisation is legitimate again thanks to Civil War’s ‘Sokovia Accords’, but Coulson is no longer Director and the team has been split up. Coulson and Mack go to Los Angeles to find Daisy under the guise of checking up on Yo-Yo, another Inhuman. Daisy herself is busy finding Ghost Rider, and does only loose due to the physical restraints of her powers. May is sent after Coulson by Simmons, and May is exposed to an unknown magic containment. Meanwhile Fitz is with Radcliffe realising that he has built a lifelike robot called AIDA (Mallory Jansen) that he decides to help him with. Overall, a lot going on.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. - "The Ghost" - In the season premiere episode, "The Ghost," Ghost Rider is coming, and S.H.I.E.L.D will never be the same. "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns with a vengeance for the fourth exciting season in an all-new time period, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on the ABC Television Network. Despite being put what is known as ABC’s ‘death slot’, I have high hopes for this season of Agents’. The pacing seems great, at no point was I bored annoyed. The team dynamic is interesting now that there has been a power shift, with Coulson being demoted and Simmons outranking May. It’ll be interesting to see how the team comes full circle again. I’m curious to see what is going on with AIDA, they didn’t put her in for no reason. I imagine she is there to either solve a major problem later on, or something is going to go horribly wrong, probably both if I know the Whedons at all. Then there is the big event for this season: Ghost Rider. Despite some lashback over him not being the ‘original’ Ghost Rider, I think fan reception will be positive after tonight’s performance. I can’t wait to see more. His interactions with Daisy are reminiscent of Daredevil and the Punishers. For a cable television show, the effects were great. Maybe not HBO levels, but still great. The acting was on par, and design was great at making Ghost Rider come to life. This is easily Agents’ most solid opening ever. Five out of five stars.
