DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Review!

Jondee here on the Waverider,

London, 2166, The Second Blitz, it’s end of a siege. Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) appears and shoots a woman watching over her son, Jonas. He asks if he is foolish like his father or brave like his mother and shoots the child! The Time Masters meet with our narrator, Captain Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill who knows a thing about traveling through time being aboard the Tardis), he wants a time ship to change the timeline. Rip Hunter first appeared in Showcase #20 (1959).  He enters the timeship, Waverider, and sets the destination: Star City, 2016 to find his team. He recruits the Atom (Brandon Routh) who is flying through a circuit board watched over by Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell). He goes full size and blasts armed men. Tibert, 2016, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), was resurrected in the Lazarus Pit on Arrow. A woman is accosted in a bar and Sara takes on him and the other men. Hunter asks for a drink and blasts her.

Pittsburgh, Firestorm, the duo of Jax Jackson (Franz Damien) and Professor Stein (Victor Garber) is met by Hunter. St. Roch (this was the setting of Geoff John’s Hawkman series), Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) are helping a woman and met again by Rip Hunter. Central City, Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heatwave (Dominic Purcell) are on a crime spree getting diapers! Rip Hunter stands in the way of their van and zaps him. They all waken on a rooftop. Rip Hunter tells them all that they are threatened by Vandal Savage who has to be destroyed by Hawkman and Hawkgirl to be permanently destroyed. He gives the speech that they are not heroes, but legends. Professor Stein says legends have to be dead. Hunter shows a world sized hologram of the destruction caused by Savage. Then, he walks off giving Stein his card.

Star City, Arrow is fighting with some men, but they are blasted by Atom. He explains that he will be missing fighting Savage whom the Arrow faced with the Flash and the Hawkcouple. At their apartment, Carter says they were killed 206 times by Savage arguing with Kendra. She takes off her jacket to face her reincarnated lover. Sara spars with her sister, Laurel (Katie Cassidy), using staves. Laurel tells her to be the White Canary and has the new suit made by Cisco. At their hideout, Heatwave is working on some iron work. Cold tells his partner that time travel will enable them to go to places and take things without DNA testing. Stein is busy trying to convince Jax, but uses a drink to knock him out! He drives up to the location and the others gather. Hunter appears and reveals to them the invisible time ship he has used for a decade. Stein has Heatwave bring in Jax. On board the ship, Palmer is talking with Stein about the ship using ionic thrust. Heatwave tells Stein that he “roofied” Jax, hilarious. Gideon appears as a holographic head with the team assembled. Hunter calls up Professor Boardman (Peter Francis James). St. Roch, New Orleans, 1975. The team locks into seats and Hunter cautions them that they might bleed from the eyeballs! Jax wakens and is surprised! Two young men see the ship leave and a an armed henchman appears and blasts the men. 1975, the ship disappears, Heatwaves vomits, Atom collapses, and Stein is temporarily blinded.

Hunter wants Cold and Heatwave on the ship. Hunter explains that the Boardman died of mysterious causes. Boardman revives and is surprised to see Carter and Kiara. Welcome Back, Kotter is watched by Heatwave who thinks it’s a rerun. Canary wants a drink with Heatwave and Cold. The professor blows off dust from a book. A flashback look to Egypt that was seen in the Arrow episode. The professor believes the meteor that fell exposed all three to radiation. He says that they knew him before in World War I. Boardman says the Hawkcouple was Joe and Edith Boardman and gives her a picture of them together at the World’s Fair. Also, that she is his mother!  At a bar, Heatwave has a handful of dollar bill drinks, he loves the 70’s! LoL.  He plays Captain & Tenille. Canary goes to dance, a biker walks up, and she takes him down. Cold and Heatwave look on. They get into the fight taking down hordes of bar patrons. Jax is on the ship and wants to go back to 2016. The ship is struck by a thermite grenade fired by Chronos identified by Gideon. Chronos was a time villain who first appeared in The Atom #3 (1962). Boardman gives a book to Hunter, Stein suffers a headache knowing that Jax is in trouble, the Hawkcouple want to bring their son. Hawkman and Hawkgirl strike Chronos. Hunter fires his time gun. Stein and Atom hurry back to the ship. Chronos is hit by a car driven by Cold who says, “We go out for one lousy drink and you manage to pick a fight with Boba Fett!” They fight off Chronos, but Boardman is injured.

Through the Temporal Zone, the ship is damaged and Hunter is angry, but Kendra right crosses him. He tells them that Chronos works for the Time Masters. Canary hits him. Like a certain doctor, he went rogue and stole the Tar-um, time ship, to take people who wouldn’t disrupt the timeline. Palmer wants to know about Hunter’s role with Savage, he explains that he had a child, Jonas, the one killed at the beginning. Rip is shown cradling his boy and screaming. Kendra looks at her son, he shows her a necklace which belonged to her, and leaves him. She talks with Hawman. Stein goes to apologize to Jax who wants to stay. He’s inspired by the team’s scramble to get to the ship. Palmer fires a random blast that freaks out Cold. He is there with Canary and Heatwave. Canary has them agreeing to save the world. Hawkgirl tells Hunter that her son died. The others join them. Norway, 1975, Savage walks up to killed soldiers to reach a bomb. A nice start, Four Time Spheres out of Five!
