In an age where the music was loud, the hair was wild, and vampires were monsters who drank blood and didn’t sparkle in the daylight we had fantastic movies that we had no idea were so fantastic until 30 years later. Looking back the Lost Boys was one of these movies. The Lost Boys was everything a real horror movie fan could want in a vampire movie and still holds up to this day.

Plot:

The Emerson brothers are a pair of unlucky siblings who are being forced to move to Santa Carla while their hippy mother finds herself and gets a new start on life by moving in with her dad and getting a job in a movie rental shop. The youngest Emerson brother, Sam, wanders into a comic shop and befriends the strange and unusual Frog brothers while the oldest Emerson, Michael, happens to lock eyes with the Vampires girlfriend and unknowingly gets himself into the Santa Carla bloodsucker biker gang of the Lost Boys. A good guy at heart, Michael is having trouble coming to grips with his bloodthirsty ways. With the help of his little brother and the Frogs, he might be able to turn this curse around and keep himself from a stake in the heart compliments of the Frog brothers.

What’s so good about it?

The Lost Boys Mixes the traditional vampire history with a bit of its own vampire lore while not taking things too far out of control like with the madness that happened in Twilight series. On a side note, if you are going to change a “monster” so much that it’s only recognizable as said monster in name alone, maybe you should call it something else. A creature that lives in the woods, can fly, sparkles in the daylight, and feeds off of the blood of forest animals? I would say that is closer to a Fairy then a vampire. Recognize! I digress.

The Lost Boys is, in my opinion, one of the most solid vampire movies still to this day. Fright Night, Wes Craven’s Vampires, and Salem’s Lot also come to mind when thinking of good vampire movies but those all still fall short in comparison to the timeless classic that is The Lost Boys. We hope that this is one classic Hollywood leaves alone and never tries to re-make, it won’t happen. This movie is perfect.

Quotable Lines:

  • Alan Frog: Does the sunlight freak him out?
  • Sam Emerson: Uh, he wears sunglasses in the house.
  • Edgar Frog: Bad breath, long fingernails?
  • Sam Emerson: Yeah, his fingernails are a little bit longer, um, he always had bad breath, though.

  • “Great, The Bloodsucking Brady Bunch!”

  • “One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach; all the damn vampires.“

  • Holy shit! It’s the attack of Eddie Munster!

  • Death by stereo!

  • Where the hell are you from? Krypton?

  • Sam Emerson: You’re a vampire! I knew it!
  • Michael Emerson: I am not!
  • Sam Emerson: So what are you? The Flying Nun?

  • Burn rubber does not mean warp speed!

The LOST Boys 30 years later

The Frog and Emerson Brothers are back and Santa Carla is once again under attack by more vampires! Michael, Sam, Allan, and Edgar team up with the Sax Man AKA: The Believer to help rid their sleepy beachside community of the undead known as the Blood Belles.

Writer Tim Seeley (NIGHTWING, Hack/Slash) and artist Scott Godlewski (THE DARK & BLOODY, Copperhead) deliver a gruesome and stylish return to the bloody boardwalks of Santa Clara. The comic trade is available next Wednesday 8/9, in comic stores, and available everywhere books are sold Tuesday, 8/15.

We hope you enjoy the blood-sucking fun!
